Grasping the possibilities of energy efficiency

With up to 50 per cent of CO2 emissions are attributable to commercial buildings from electricity consumption. Facilities managers are facing increasing pressures to reduce the carbon footprint of their buildings, as well as their bottom line.

Moreover, as consumer and business technology proliferates and other equipment such as air conditioning and ventilation systems increase in use, electricity consumption is rising at a higher rate than other energy usage.

With this in mind there is a need for building and facility managers to consider a move to a more sustainable operating model. In order to achieve this, there are a number of steps that can be taken, including gaining an understanding and control of buildings’ energy use through the implementation of building management systems and upgrades to existing technologies to improve operations.
