Best wishes on the occasion of Dussehra

Dussehra, also known as Dasara, Vijayadashami, Durgotsav or the tenth day of Navratri, is an important Hindu festival celebrated across India. It is calculated on the basis of tenth day of Hindu lunar calendar month of Ashvin and usually falls in September or October each year.

The history of Dussehra celebrations is as old as one can think of and is believed to have its origin in several legends. The two stories most commonly associated with Dussehra are mentioned here. According to Hindu mythology, Ravan, the demon King abducted King Rama’s wife Sita to his kingdom of Lanka. Rama, his brother Lakshmana, their follower Hanuman and an army of monkeys fought a great battle to rescue Sita. It is believed that it was on the tenth day of the battle that Lord Rama killed Ravana by cutting his ten heads, to rescue his beloved wife Sita. Furthermore, Dussehra Puja is also celebrated to mark Goddess Durga’s victory over the Mahishasura demons. Thus it is a festival celebrated to commemorate the triumph of good over evil. Bengalis celebrate Dusshera as a part of their main festival - Durga Puja. This day marks the end of Durga Puja celebrations, the preceding nine days being collectively referred to as 'Navratri'.

On the occasion of Dussehra, celebrate the victory of good over evil. Wishing you and your family a blessed and joyous Dussehra!
