Rape cases on the rise, take action!
In this past month we have read about several shocking rape
cases. Every story has invoked a sense of outrage on how the innocent of all
ages are being violated. The time has come for us to stand up against such
heinous crimes and be the change we want to see in our society.
One small step is to review security measures.
Irrespective of whether it is a residence, factory, bank or an office, an
educational institution or any other place you frequent do consider and
implement a few safety tips:
·
Get all your domestic staff and workers at your
office police verified. If possible even get an additional
background/antecedents check conducted.
·
If you are using a security agency, ensure that
the agency is licensed to operate as per the PSAR Act 2005. The Act mandates
that every guard has to receive a minimum of 160 hours of training before being
deployed. Further each guard has to be police verified and paid laid down wages
and statutory benefits. A well trained and compensated guard is more aware of
his responsibilities and less like to take actions which may cost him his job.
·
Get a security and safety audit done for your
premises to evaluate threat perceptions and risk. Among other things, this can
be targeted to get women safely to and from work places. It can include access
to and safety at various facilities and lighting arrangements.
·
As per the results of the audit, do consider
installing necessary security equipment and surveillance cameras. Ensure that
you have trained personnel to monitor your security equipment.
·
And lastly
encourage everyone to follow commences security measures as awareness is the
biggest deterrent to perpetrators.
